Near the home. Welcome to the ghetto.
The PD in me is curious about all of this. Do you know any details about the break-ins? Were they homes or businesses? Was anyone home? Most people who break into places are addicts looking for money or something to sell (and the vast vast majority are unarmed and more afraid of you than you are of them). Doesn't mean that wouldn't scare the crap out of me, though! It's much easier when I'm representing them after all is said and done.
And I forgot to say the dead cat part makes me really sad.
